Struck in 2026, this magnificent Gold Proof Five-Pounds (£5) Sovereign represents the flagship coin of The Royal Mint's prestigious five coin Sovereign collection. Marking a revival of the traditional yellow gold appearance of the historic Sovereign after recent rose gold issues, this exceptional coin celebrates one of Britain's most iconic numismatic designs in its finest modern form.
The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci's legendary depiction of Saint George slaying the dragon, a masterpiece first introduced to the Sovereign in 1817 and regarded as one of the greatest coin designs ever created. The obverse bears the first definitive coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings, depicting the monarch uncrowned and facing left.
Struck in 22 carat gold to the Royal Mint's highest proof standard, this piece displays deeply mirrored fields and beautifully frosted devices that define the Ultra Cameo finish. With a maximum mintage of just 500, the 2026 Gold Proof £5 Sovereign is one of the rarest modern Sovereign releases and a highly desirable addition to any serious collection.
