2022 Queen Elizabeth II Memorial £100 1oz Gold Proof

Issued following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022, this 2022 £100 Gold Proof coin forms part of The Royal Mint's official Memorial Collection celebrating the life and extraordinary reign of Britain's longest-serving monarch. The issue also holds particular numismatic significance as part of the first UK coin collection to feature the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.

The obverse features Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III, with His Majesty facing to the right in accordance with the centuries-old tradition of successive British monarchs facing in alternating directions. The reverse, designed by John Bergdahl, presents an elegant portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, shown wearing a pearl necklace and surrounded by laurel branches and roses tied with a ribbon.

The inscription "ELIZABETH REGINA 1926 to 2022" completes the commemorative design. Struck in 24 carat gold to The Royal Mint's Proof standard, the coin weighs 31.21g and contains approximately one troy ounce of fine gold. Bringing together the final chapter of Queen Elizabeth II's historic reign and the beginning of the coinage of King Charles III, this Memorial issue represents a significant moment in modern British numismatic history.
