Struck in 1999, this moving commemorative gold Five-Pounds coin honours the life and legacy of Diana, Princess of Wales one of the most admired and influential figures of the modern Royal Family. Remembered for her humanitarian work, compassion and global impact, her passing in 1997 prompted an extraordinary response across the United Kingdom and throughout the world.
The reverse features a graceful portrait of the Princess by David Cornell, capturing her timeless elegance, with the dates 1961 to 1997 below. The obverse bears the fourth definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, introduced to UK coinage in 1998. Struck in 22 carat gold to proof standard, this piece displays the deeply mirrored fields and finely frosted design that define the Ultra Cameo finish.
With a limited issue of just 7,500 coins, it remains one of the most sought after modern commemorative £5 gold proofs.
