2002 Britannia £25 1/4oz Gold Proof

The 2002 Britannia £25 Gold Proof is a distinctive issue within The Royal Mint's celebrated Britannia series, featuring an important interpretation of Britain's enduring national symbol. Struck in 22-carat gold to Proof standard, the coin contains one-quarter of a troy ounce of fine gold and was produced specifically for collectors.

The reverse features Philip Nathan's depiction of Britannia standing with her trident and shield. The design is particularly notable as it represented only the second time Britannia had been depicted as a standing figure on United Kingdom coinage, following George William de Saulles' celebrated Britannia design used on the florins of King Edward VII between 1902 and 1910. The obverse features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, the fourth definitive effigy of the Queen to appear on British coinage.

With a limited worldwide mintage of just 750 coins, the 2002 quarter-ounce Britannia is a particularly scarce Proof issue within the series. Combining Philip Nathan's distinctive standing Britannia design, a low worldwide mintage and The Royal Mint's Proof finish, this example is presented in its original Royal Mint box with Certificate of Authenticity.
