2015 Battle of Waterloo Bicentenary £5 Gold Proof PF69 Ultra Cameo

Price

£4,450.00

Issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, this 2015 £5 Gold Proof coin marks one of the most decisive battles in British and European history. This example has been certified by NGC as PF69 Ultra Cameo, recognising a near-flawless Proof strike with strong contrast between the frosted design and mirrored fields. The coin was the official UK coin issued to mark the bicentenary of the battle, which took place on 18 June 1815 and brought Napoleon's Hundred Days to an end.

The reverse was designed by David Lawrence and depicts the pivotal alliance between the Duke of Wellington and Prussian commander Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher. The design captures the two commanders in a moment of accord following the Allied victory, representing the cooperation that proved crucial at Waterloo. The obverse features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with the 2015 issue belonging to the first year of Jody Clark's fifth definitive coinage portrait.

Struck in 22-carat gold to The Royal Mint's Proof standard, this £5 coin had a maximum mintage of just 500 coins. Combining an exceptionally low mintage, an important military anniversary, David Lawrence's commemorative design and a high NGC grade, the 2015 Battle of Waterloo £5 is a notable modern British gold commemorative issue.
