2010 £5 Countdown to London Olympics Proof PF70 ULTRA CAMEO

Price

£4,470.45

Struck by The Royal Mint in 2010, this London 2012 Olympic Games Countdown £5 Gold Proof Coin is the second release in the official four-coin Countdown Series celebrating the approach to the London 2012 Olympic Games. Issued with a limited worldwide mintage of just 1,562 pieces, it was struck in solid 22-carat gold to the Royal Mint's highest Proof standard, making it one of the scarcer issues in the series.

The obverse features the fourth definitive portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, while the reverse, designed by Claire Aldridge BA, depicts athletes sprinting towards the finish line in a celebration of Olympic competition and sporting excellence. The design also incorporates the countdown number "2", marking two years until the opening of the London 2012 Olympic Games, together with the official London 2012 Olympic logo.

Certified by NGC as PF70 Ultra Cameo, the highest grade attainable, this flawless example displays exceptional contrast between the frosted design and deeply mirrored fields. As the second coin in the official Countdown Series, it is an outstanding modern Royal Mint commemorative that combines exceptional craftsmanship with the excitement and anticipation surrounding the London 2012 Olympic Games.
