1996 £2 European Championship Proof PF70 ULTRA CAMEO
£0.00
Struck by The Royal Mint to celebrate the UEFA Euro 1996 tournament hosted in England, this limited edition £2 gold proof coin is a lasting tribute to one of football’s most memorable championships. The reverse design by John Mills features a stylised football formed by sixteen rings surrounding the date 1996, representing the sixteen competing nations, with the edge inscription TENTH EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP.
The obverse bears the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. Produced in solid 22 carat gold to a flawless proof finish, the coin weighs 15.98 grams and is the same diameter as the standard £2. Although the certificate states a presentation of 17,500, only 2,098 coins were actually issued, making it a highly sought-after release.
As official British legal tender, this coin is also Capital Gains Tax exempt in the UK.
