2001 Reverse Frosted Gold Proof Queen Victoria £5 NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO

Price

£4,381.18

The 2001 Queen Victoria Centenary Gold Five Pound Coin is one of the most distinctive commemorative issues produced by The Royal Mint during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Struck to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Queen Victoria, this special £5 gold proof coin celebrates the legacy of one of Britain's most influential monarchs while showcasing a highly creative reverse design that stands apart from traditional British coinage.

Designed by Mary Milner-Dickens, the reverse features a symbolic representation of the Crystal Palace, one of the defining landmarks of the Victorian era. The design incorporates railway lines forming the shape of a "V", a portrait of Queen Victoria, references to the historic One Penny coinage and the anniversary dates 1901–2001. The obverse bears the Fourth Portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, creating a fitting link between two of Britain's longest-reigning monarchs.

This example is particularly desirable as it was struck with the special Reverse Frosted Proof finish, featuring frosted devices on both sides of the coin. Certified by NGC as PF69 Ultra Cameo, it displays exceptional contrast and eye appeal, while its extremely limited issue of just 733 pieces worldwide makes it one of the scarcer modern British gold commemoratives sought after by collectors today.
